This is a great router w/ a gigabit switch and many advanced features such as WPA2 and RADIUS server support, protocol prioritization and more.
The D-Link doesn't run hot, gigabit is GREAT, wireless is GREAT. Anyway, I've got at least "good" signal throughout my entire house - no less than 36Mb/s.
I had an existing 802.11g wireless router that I had to reboot every 2-3 days because the DHCP service would apparently hang (clients couldn't get an IP until the unit was reset). This got old very quickly.
Let me start by saying this review is probably somewhat biased. I was specifically looking for a wireless router that had gigabit ports - I don't care too much about wireless bandwidth (don't need "n").
This D-Link absolutely ROCKS. I've had it running for about a month now with nothing but perfect function.
My old "g" router would sometimes be as low as 2Mb/s or lose signal altogether. All-in-all a perfect "10".
Use MAC address filtering, you may or may not find a use for the extra features of this router. If there is something wrong, figure it out, you always learn a lot, unless the hardware is bad or faulty.
I run servers and things like that in my spare time. Okay, networking is complicated, im 14 and am a nerd.
I never call technical support. This was easy to set up.
I dont even read the manuals, i just look up the gateway ip address and use the manual configuration. If you do need help, read about encryption, WPA only.
But the gamefuel works great.
The D-Link DGL-4300 comes with a large glossy installation guide with large and clear instructions, but that didn't stop me from making one important mistake when setting it up. I plugged the power adapter in before I booted up my cable modem, and so the cable modem got its IP address from the D-Link router instead of the cable service. Once I realized what the problem was, I repeated the steps without a mistake and it has worked without a hitch since then. The activity lights are a bit on the bright side, but that is a very minor quibble and aside from that there have been no problems at all.
I have a PS3, 2 laptops and a desktop which leverages the wireless b & g, 100 MBs & 1 Gigbit wired connections. In short it performs perfectly, can't ask for more, the reason I'm posting this review is that I realized how stable is it, after attempting to upgrade to another DLink router that incorporated Wireless n but turned to be a disaster.
